Permits & Entrance Fees

To trek to the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake, trekkers are required to obtain two permits:

  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): NPR 3,000 for foreigners and NPR 1,000 for SAARC nationals.
  • Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) Card: NPR 2,000 for foreigners and NPR 600 for SAARC nationals.

Both of these permits are mandatory, and we can arrange them for you before your trek begins. It’s also recommended to carry a few photocopies of your passport and permits, as there are several checkpoints along the route where you’ll be asked to show them.

Internet, Electricity & Phone Access

  • Mobile network coverage is generally available up to Manang, with both NTC and Ncell working, but beyond that, only Nepal Telecom (NTC) works, and the signal can be very unreliable. However, 4G does not work at higher elevations.
  • Internet access is available in many teahouses up to Manang, and occasionally beyond, depending on weather and location. Wi-Fi is often slow and unreliable, and using it usually costs around NPR 200–300.
  • Charging electronic devices such as phones and cameras is possible at lodges, but it usually incurs a small fee of NPR 300 per hour and NPR 500 - 800 for a full charge, and electricity is primarily generated through solar power.

Meals and Dining on the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek

  • During the trek, all three meals are included as part of the package. Breakfast and dinner are served at the lodges, while lunch is prepared fresh along the trail at local guesthouses or restaurants. • Lodges will provide boiled water for around NPR 500 per liter. However, it is important to note that when you reach high altitudes, bottled water becomes limited and less affordable, so we recommend that you bring along water purification tablets or rely on boiled water at lodges.

  • You’ll be accompanied throughout the trek by experienced, licensed mountain guides from our team, trained in wilderness skills and first aid.
  • For groups of more than 5 people, we provide an additional assistant guide to ensure extra care and support.

  • We provide a detailed packing list to ensure you have everything you need for the Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek, including essential gear for various weather conditions. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions about what to pack for the ACT trek with Tilicho Lake.

High Altitude Sickness

  • The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek reaches a maximum altitude of 4,919 meters at Tilicho Lake, which increases the risk of altitude sickness compared to lower-elevation treks like Ghorepani Poonhill. Proper acclimatization and careful planning are essential for a safe journey.
  • Our itinerary is designed with gradual elevation gains wherever possible, allowing your body to adjust naturally while you enjoy the stunning mountain scenery. Trekkers should be aware that the high altitude requires both physical and mental readiness. If you wish, the itinerary can be adjusted by adding extra days for acclimatization or to explore nearby villages, giving you more time to rest and experience local culture along the way.
  • Altitude sickness can occur at this elevation due to reduced oxygen levels, with symptoms including headache, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath, or fatigue. These symptoms can worsen if not addressed promptly.
  • To stay safe, monitor your condition closely, communicate openly with your guide, rest as needed, and descend immediately if symptoms become severe. Following these precautions helps ensure that your Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek is safe and enjoyable.

Trekking Grade

  • The Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek is classified as a challenging trek, with daily hikes typically ranging from 5–7 hours. A good level of physical fitness is essential to complete the trek safely.
  • Some sections are particularly demanding, including the hike from Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho Lake and the trek from High Camp to Thorong La Pass, followed by the descent back to Muktinath Village. These parts involve steep ascents, high-altitude terrain, and long hours of hiking, requiring both physical endurance and mental determination.

Weather and Climate

The weather in the Annapurna region is highly unpredictable and can change quickly, sometimes even within the same day. Temperatures can drop sharply at higher altitudes, and sudden snowfall or strong winds are quite common. A morning that starts clear and sunny can turn cloudy or foggy by the afternoon. Because of these rapid changes, it’s important for trekkers to carry warm, layered clothing such as insulated jackets, thermal wear, gloves, and hats. Waterproof gear is also essential to stay dry during unexpected rain or snow.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is essential while trekking in Nepal. Make sure the policy includes emergency high-altitude rescue, evacuation, and medical coverage. To find out which insurance is better for the trek, check out our guide on Travel insurance required for trekking in Nepal.

Tipping

While tipping is not mandatory, it is an important way to acknowledge the hard work of your guide and porter, as it forms a significant part of their income. Generally, we recommend tipping 10–12% of the trek package price for your porter and 12–15% for your guide. You can adjust the amount according to the quality of service and your overall experience. Providing tips in Nepalese Rupees or a widely accepted currency like USD is recommended.
