Gorakshep Village  (5,164m) is a small village in everest region, known mainly as the last stop in everest before reaching the famous Everest Base Camp. It is the final resting place for trekkers before starting the last part of their journey to the base camp. Located between beautiful mountains like Pumori and Nuptse, Gorakshep offers a stunning view of Mount Everest and other surrounding peaks such as Lhotse, Lingtren,Changtse and many more. The village has a few simple lodges, guesthouses, and teahouses where trekkers can relax and recharge before continuing their journey. Though basic, these accommodations provide needed comfort after a long day of trekking. Gorakshep also has a small stupa and a few shops for trekking gear. Trekkers usually stay for a night , before visiting the Everest Base Camp. The area is peaceful and isolated, surrounded by tall mountains, and offers a special chance to experience the high-altitude environment of the Everest region.

The name "Gorak Shep" is derived from the Sherpa language, in which "Gorak" means "raven" and "Shep" means "dead." Certainly, the name of this place suggests that even ravens, which survive in the most inhospitable of environments, do not survive here. Gorak Shep was once the base camp for Everest expeditions in the 1950s, including the historic 1953 expedition when Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary successfully summited Everest. The site was chosen for its flat terrain and proximity to the mountain, despite its extreme altitude and difficult conditions. Today, it is a major stopping point before reaching Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Due to its high elevation, there is a serious concern of altitude sickness in Gorak Shep, and many trekkers experience the  symptoms of acute mountain sickness. Medical facilities are very limited, and as such, trekkers should be well-prepared and take caution while ascending.
