Swayambhunath Stupa

Swayambhu stupa, the most popular Buddhist site of Kathmandu also falls under the world heritage sites. This holy shrine lies 2 km west of Kathmandu city. Swayambhu Stupa is located on top of the hill that overlooks the valley of Kathmandu. Known as the monkey temple, holy monkeys live in parts of the temple in the northwest. Old historic inscriptions deliver evidence that the stupa was already an important Buddhist pilgrimage destination by the 5th century AD.  One can see the painted eyes on four sides represent the all-seeing eyes of Buddha and are watching all the time wrong-doers and good-doers.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square ( Old Royal Palace) was built in the 12th century. The Durbar square is home to numerous temples, Kumari Bahal ( House of Living Goddess), Kasthamandap (house of wood), and The old museum. Durbar Square lies in the heart of this city. Known as Hanuman Dhoka Palace Square among the locals, it is an ancient seat of the Nepalese Royalty.

Pashupatinath Temple

A short commute of 20 minutes on course towards Kathmandu International Air Terminal resides this Holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath by the bank of the sacred Bagmati River. This ancient Temple of Pashupatinath is dedicated to Lord Shiva with four silver entryways in every corner and a Golden Roof in Pagoda style. Only Hindus are permitted inside the primary Temple premises so non-Hindus can watch the Temple environment from outside. This spot is overflowed with pilgrims amid the favorable time in February according to the Hindu Lunar schedule of the “Shiva Ratri” Shiva conception commemoration. It is the place of cremation of Hindus and cremation ceremonies of Hindus.

Boudhanath Stupa “The Little Tibet”

Among all the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Kathmandu Valley, the Boudhanath stupa is one of the holiest Buddhist stupas in South Asia. It is called Khasa Caitya or Khasi by Newars and Bauddha or Bodhnath by general Nepali natives. It resides around 11 km away from the heart of the capital towards the northeastern edges of Kathmandu. The stupa's enormous size and Mandala make it one of the biggest round stupas in Nepal. It is said to be 2500 years of aged Buddhist stupa of the Valley established in the fifth century. This stupa is decorated with four sets of eyes of Lord Buddha in four cardinal bearings keeping an everlasting watch over the general population of Nepal. Travelers will encounter Buddhist explorers from Tibet going around the stupa revolving around the petition to God. This place is full of traditional Tibetan culture and Buddhist religious establishments.
